The Head of EnICS Labs at Bar-Ilan University is recognized by the Israeli semiconductor industry and the Israel Innovation Authority. A closer look at the transition from advanced academic research to Deep Tech commercialization.

During the ChipEx2026 Executive Summit, the “Global Industry Leader” award was presented to Prof. Alex Fish, Head of the EnICS Labs at Bar-Ilan University’s Faculty of Engineering. The award was presented by Dr. Alon Stopel, Chairman of the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA), alongside ChipEx chairmen Mr. Sol (Shlomo) Gradman and Prof. Ran Ginosar.

Hardware Technology: From Low-Power Memory to Quantum Computing Research at EnICS (Microelectronics and Device Labs) focuses on developing hardware solutions for energy efficiency and performance optimization, which are critical for AI, cloud computing, and edge devices. Prof. Fish’s core research areas include:

  • Low-Power Memory Technologies: Developing embedded memory architectures that reduce power consumption in advanced chips.
  • Biomedical Circuits: Designing ultra-low-power, miniature electronic components for medical devices and implants that require extended battery life.
  • Cryogenic CMOS Technology: Researching hardware capable of operating at extreme, near-zero temperatures, forming an essential infrastructure for quantum computing.

Technology Transfer and Industry Integration For BIRAD, the Research & Development Company of Bar-Ilan University, Prof. Fish’s work serves as a practical model for Tech Transfer—translating academic innovation into commercial products. Alongside his academic research, Prof. Fish co-founded RAAAM Memory Technologies with Dr. Robert Giterman, Prof. Andreas Burg, and Prof. Adam Teman. The company develops high-density embedded memory solutions, enabling the semiconductor industry to reduce silicon area and lower manufacturing costs.

Developing Human Capital for the Ecosystem The EnICS Labs, supported by the Israel Innovation Authority, also serves as a training center for researchers and engineers. Upon receiving the award, Prof. Fish emphasized that integrating the labs’ alumni into development and leadership roles across the semiconductor industry is a central pillar of their academic work. He expressed his gratitude to his co-directors, students, university administration, and the BIRAD team for supporting the commercialization process.

We at BIRAD congratulate Prof. Fish on this recognition and remain committed to advancing technology commercialization and building strategic partnerships between Bar-Ilan researchers, industry leaders, and the investor community.
